Visit at the H-A-R-K Center

Updated: Jun 24, 2018

My board member Dana and I met with Eileen Williams who runs the H-A-R-K (Hobby-Activity-Recycling-Kraft) Center. We introduced Eileen to Aunty Yusra who runs the Al Amal Center in Jordan for underprivileged children with mental disabilities.

I will never forget Caitlin, Eileen's 31-year-old daughter. She is so lovable. Caitlin has a mental disability. Both Aunty Yusra and Eileen chatted while Dana was translating from Arabic to English and vice versa. Eileen and Aunty Yusra connected right away and talked about the activities in their center. Aunty Yusra's eyes lit up when she saw the knitting machine that Eileen has in the center to make beautiful scarfs and squeezable yarn balls. She knew that she has to take this machine back to Jordan. BOM knew to provide it! What amazed me is the concept of H-A-R-K which is to turn used recycled greeting cards and paper bags into beautiful gift bags, bookmarks and gift tags. How genius!

I was mesmerized by the beauty of the center, the beauty of the craft and the beauty of the people. Eileen's dream is to spread the H-A-R-K model around the world. She can start with Jordan by partnering with Aunty Yusra.....BOM helped to connect two ladies who help the same people but in different parts of the world. Compassion without borders.
